Project Overview

The project is based in Clearwater, Florida and is an extension to the existing Clearwater Public Library near the waterfront. The site is also near the Sound music venue, and a scientologist retreat building. The location of the extension becomes a connection between the library and music venue while also being a sound buffer for the retreat zone.In achieving a good sound barrier, the library extension is designed with a curvy and fluid form. The main exploration of this library extension is to search of ways to connect with the surrounding landscape. In addition, the building aims to create a place of gathering within the Clearwater community, where individuals can come together to appreciate the beauty of nature and architecture. To connect to nature in the building, I designed a serene pond adjoining the extension and indoor gardens. The library also serves as a major hub for learning and experiencing the native sea mammals of Clearwater.Visitors can delve into the rich marine life through educational exhibits, interactive displays, and engaging programs while also enjoying nature’s beauty within.
